About

Behind the Dash

I’m Laura, the human behind {EM}Dash FWD. Wordsmith, technologist, problem-solver. I’m here to make your work (and maybe even personal) life easier and more efficient.

Who I Am

For two decades, I’ve worked as a legal marketer on lean teams where wearing multiple hats wasn’t optional—it was the job. I’m a writer, editor, and technology architect who’s spent a lifetime figuring out how words and tech can solve problems and create opportunities.

My Mission

Make your life easier. Seriously.

My mission is to work myself out of a job. I assess what’s already in place, understand your goals and constraints, then design solutions that get the work done efficiently—and give you time back for what matters.

What I Do

Experience

Professional Career

For more than two decades, I’ve helped law firms, legal tech companies, and professional services organizations tell compelling stories and build smarter systems. Always on teams where resourcefulness mattered as much as expertise.

I’ve led communications teams at law firms, shaped content strategy for legal tech companies, and built marketing programs from scratch at organizations that needed someone who could both envision the strategy and execute every detail.

LIfe-Long Passion

My passion for words and technology existed long before my career started. I’m the type to spend my weekends writing essays and short stories, editing papers, and building WordPress websites for fun.

I love and enjoy this work. I study it, learn from experts, and experiment constantly. It’s not just a career or a way of life—it’s the core of who I am. And that means when we work together, you’re getting someone who brings decades of obsessive curiosity and genuine joy to every project.

Why Choose EM Dash?

I bring 20+ years of hands-on experience solving the exact problems you’re facing—and I genuinely love doing it.

Most consultants are either great writers or great with technology. I’m both. I can edit your thought leadership piece in the morning and set up your marketing automation in the afternoon. This means you get cohesive solutions instead of Frankensteined systems that don’t quite work together.

I spent two decades working on small teams where “figure it out” was part of the job description. I know what it’s like to need enterprise-level results with a startup-sized budget. I build solutions that are practical, sustainable, and designed for people that wear multiple hats.

I’ve worked at law firms and legal tech companies for over 20 years. I understand attorney skepticism, law firm politics, billing pressures, and why “just post on LinkedIn” isn’t helpful advice. I know what actually works in this industry because I’ve done it—and measured the results.

I build sustainable systems that you’ll want to use. Every project includes documentation, training, and workflows that you can maintain after I’m gone. My goal is to work myself out of a job by making you self-sufficient.

I care about metrics and ROI, but I also understand that people aren’t conversion funnels. I build strategies that get results while maintaining authenticity, voice, and the human relationships that actually drive business. Data-informed, not data-obsessed.

I design for reality, not how things should work. You’ll get solutions you can actually implement and maintain. No over-engineered workflows. No tools that require a PhD to operate. Just practical systems that solve real problems and fit your workflow.
